Kokedama is a Japanese word to describe a plant that is wrapped in moss and secured with twine. Over time, the moss grows around the plant creating a self-contained environment without the need for a pot. These plants are placed on a cute dish, a widow sill, etc and adored until they outgrow their moss home.
You may be wondering how on earth these plants get watered? About once a week, when the plant feels very light and dry, submerge the kokedama in a few inches of water and let it sit for a while. Once it's had a good drink, lightly squeeze out the excess water and return it to its display dish.
My kokedamas are available for sale when I vend at local markets. If you are in the WNC area and are interested in meeting to purchase a plant, please send me a request through the homepage. I usually have some on hand and can also custom make one with a requested plant (pending the availability of moss).
